ICIO’s Inside Out college-class-inside-the-prison program graduation for this University of Idaho semester.

Inside Out is a program designed to bring outside, college students into a prison setting and mix them with prison residents for collaborative learning. Inmates can participate for UI credit (if they have tuition funds) or on an audit basis. The IO class at ICIO is the first program of its kind in Idaho, and it has functioned for the last three years, with six semester classes having now been offered. Students finish each semester with a “graduation” ceremony and party celebrating the academic accomplishments of all participants, often the first college exposure/success many participating residents experience. This semester and last semester have been offered via Zoom.

The new semester (UI’s fall ’21) begins Monday, Aug. 31.
